Rad Tech
- Operates radiographic equipment to make images
- produce transmitting ionizing radiation through a patient
Nuclear medicine -
gamma camera detects radiation emitted by a radioactive tracer orally, intravenously, or subcutaneously. Then the tracer travels through the blood stream to target organ. Organ is scanned for anatomical structures, functions and diseases.
CT computed tomography-
a specialized x-ray machine that makes cross-sectional images
MRI Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- no x-ray or radiation
- use magnetic fields and radio waves to make images
- advanced MRIs can show coronal, sagittal, axial and multiple oblique planes
- disadvantage is time the patient needs to hold still
Sonography
- high frequency sound waves used to visualize soft tissue structures in real time
- ex. ultrasound
Speech Path
- child language disorders
- stuttering
- vocal nodules
- speech/language delay
3 phases of swallowing
oral
pharyngeal
esophageal
Oral phase
sucking, chewing, and moving food or liquid into the throat
pharyngeal phase
starting the swallowing reflex, squeezing food down the throat, and closing off the airway to prevent food or liquid from entering the airway or to prevent choking
esophageal phase
relaxing and tightening the openings at the top and bottom of the feeding tube in the throat and squeezing food though the esophagus into the stomach
