WHEN IC REQUESTS ADDITIONAL RESOURCES:
When the IC is requesting additional resources at the scene of a high-rise fire, the IC shall direct C&C to respond these resources to a “check-in” location (usually BASE) and will designate a directional route of travel to that location.

- Establish a command post in a safe location.
- Determine the adequacy of resources.
- Communicate follow-up and status reports with C&C.
- Order additional resources as needed.
- Gain control of the fire building systems including standpipes, sprinklers, HVAC, elevators, etc.
- Maintain necessary Re-Stat/Sit-Stat records.
- Provide for ICS positions, including Operations, Plans, Logistics, Divisions, and Groups as needed.

- Communicate a standard radio size-up report.
- Gain entry to the Fire Control Room and/or lobby area and perform the following tasks:
- Obtain master and elevator keys from the Fire Department lock box.
- Call elevator cars into Phase I, Fire Service recall, utilizing Fire Department key controls.
- Check annunciator panels for fire/signal locations and types.
- Quickly ascertain any other pertinent information from the building engineer and/or security at this location.
- Identify and enter a stairwell and begin an ascent to the reported fire floor.

- The route of ascent into the building by fire attack crews (include stairwell location and identification).

- Check conditions on the fire floor, the floors directly above and below the reported fire floor and communicate this information to the IC.

A minimum of two engine companies apparatus with engineers shall be dedicated to this operation, usually the first-in company and the third-in company.
Note: Water supply operations at buildings utilizing Class I (dry) non cross-connected standpipe systems may require additional engine company apparatus assigned to supply.
The first-in engine company engineer shall spot his apparatus within 100 feet of the Fire Department standpipe connection.
Only 2 1/2” hose shall be used for the hose lay between the engine company apparatus and the Fire Department connection.
If a hydrant is within 100 feet of the apparatus position, the engine company engineer should make every effort to secure a primary water supply from that hydrant.
The third-in company engineer shall assist the first-in engineer in securing
adequate primary and/or secondary water supply.
This water supply shall
include both adequate volume and pressure to facilitate fire fighting needs.
