What info should the First Arriving Ladder obtain from the Fire Safety Director..?
- Location of Fire
- Evacuation procedures implemented
- Status of Elevators
- Access Stairs SERVING THE FIRE FLOOR
FIRST LADDER SELECT ATTACK STAIRWAY, MUST HAVE STANDPIPE
Should the First Arriving Ladder remove the FLOOR PLAN from the fire command stations..?
NOT if only ONE COPY is available
Before leaving the ICP, what should first arriving ladder company do?
ensure the ICP is staffed by another FD member
Who will conduct preliminary inspection of the exterior of the building??
LCC
- persons in distress
- smoke or fire through skin of building
- need for exterior ops
2ND DUE LADDER
Search and evacuation of fire floor (assist 1st due truck)
-if possible use same elevator car as 1st truck
If possible, upon arrival, which elevator car should the 2nd due ladder company use..?
SAME car used by the 1st due ladder company (staffed by an HT radio equipped member of 1st due ladder company)
What are duties of the 3rd to arrive Ladder Company?
- determine number of stairways serving the fire floor and floor above
- proceed to floor above (NOT using attack stairway)
- determine EVACUATION stairway to be used by occupants, advise ICP
- examine floor above the fire:
a. heat and smoke conditions
b. status of evacuation
c. any extension of fire
d. presence of access stairs–DOWN TO FIRE FLOOR/UPWARD TO FLOOR ABOVE - examine all stairways for occupants and smoke
- remove all occupants from attack stairway for a REASONABLE distance above the fire floor–If difficulty is encountered clearing the attack stairway, officer will advise FIRST LADDER OFFICER OR FIRE SECTOR SUPERVISOR OR FIRE BRANCH DIRECTOR if established, to withhold fire attack
- conduct a primary search of floor above
4th due truck
- each member equipped with extra SCAB cylinder
- obtain elevator that provides safest access to roof
When can the 4th Ladder use an elevator to ascend to roof..
if fire is on a floor NOT serviced by the high-rise bank of elevators, and the high bank will be used if it is in a BLIND SHAFT
-if not, proceed to a location below the fire floor and use stairway (NOT ATTACK) to proceed to roof
Upon arrival to ROOF AREA, 4TH DUE TRUCK OFFICER, SHALL REPORT TO IC
- heat and smoke conditions
- presence of occupants
- means available for roof ventilation
- fire or occupants at windows visible from roof
DO NOT VENTILATE, UNLESS ORDERED BY IC
- CONDUCT PRIMARY SEARCH OF TOP 5 FLOORS
- remain at roof area to monitor and report any changing conditions until ordered by IC
- logical assignment after roof ops would be UPPER FLOORS OF ELEVATOR BANK SERVING FIRE FLOOR
- Operate under SAE group supervisor
Greater alarm or special called ladder companies after the 4th arriving LADDER shall report
ICP in the lobby
or
if staffed, LOBBY CONTROL UNIT
If first to arrive (before 1st due Ladder), what shall the Engine Company officer obtain from FSD?
- location of fire
- evacuation implemented
- status of elevators
- access stairs serving the FIRE FLOOR
The Engine Company will remain at ICP, until.
LADDER COMPANY HAS VERIFIED THE FIRE LOCATION
Duties of 2nd due Engine
- assist 1st due in stretching of first line
- provide commuNications link between the LOBBY and the FIRE AREA, by taking POST RADIO
Where should the 2nd due Engine take the Post Radio?
vicinity of standpipe outlet (1st hoseline)
provide HT communications between standpipe outlet and the nozzle (REMAIN AT OUTLET UNTIL CORRECT NOZZLE PRESSURE IS ACHIEVED)
- leave fire area when hose line is stretched and operating so as not to deplete air supply
- coordinate relief with 1ST due engine officer for relief of members operating 1st line
