High Rise 1-1-17 Flashcards
Box alarm of high rise 1st consists of what?
4 eng 4 aerial/res 2 batt Chiefs
During 2nd alarm what do the 2 new Chiefs assume?
Planning section chief or operations section chief
When positioning apparatus at high rise alarm what 4 considerations should be made?
Leave the front open for aerial Don’t block fdc or hydrants Position engine close enough to carry equipment easier Consider collapse zones
How many sets of building keys should high rise have and who takes them?
5 sets required 1 for inside truck 1 for fire attack1 3 left for lobby control, water supply, and recon If fire attack 2 needs an elevator key as well for access consider only taking the elevator and leaving the rest of the set behind
Ghosting is a procedure for what?
Sending an elevator back down to the lobby by switching the FF control key to the OFF position (back to phase I) *phase II is under FF control with the key inside the elevator*
Who evaluates use of elevators initially?
Inside truck or Fire Attack 1
Where are phase I recall controls located?
In the elevator lobby or FCR if equipped.
Designation of attack stairwell is made how?
Predominantly by location of fire and ability of hose to reach from that standpipe.
What line is used at high rise and why?
2 1/2 in high rise packs because of its lightweight material and ability to produce more flow at lower pressures.
What are characteristics of a wind driven events (pertaining to why we connect to one floor below fire floor)
Wind driven fire, open residential front door, or heavy fuel loads, etc..
Hallway stretch drop points how many and where are they?
1 hallway one floor below fire floor and should connect all sections with spanner wrench for water tight seal 2 hallway on fire floor just out side the stairwell door 3 fire compartment room on the hinge side in order to provide a max working range of nozzle and provide door chock due to weight of the hose. Also grab mid section of hose and pull straight back on hinge side of door in order to make a U shape.
Stairwell stretch drop points are where and why?
1 floor hallway below fire floor and all hose connected with spanner wrench to provide water tight seal. 2 fire floor stairwell landing just inside stairwell door on the lock side. Give plenty of room from nozzle to door in order to not have hose block door when charged ( outward swinging door)
When charging the hose line what must be done for each elevation change?
A FF must stand on the hose line at each landing (elevation change) as well as the landing of the standpipe connection. FF above fire floor must descend prior to opening fire floor door.
What should be checked by the water supply pump operator at the FDCs?
Ensure that all caps are removed, clean debris from inside connection, check threads for damage or buildup, ensure there is a clapper valve present (especially if more than 2 openings)
During recon group evacuation assist, what is the order in which evacuation is prioritized ?
Floor above fire floor Each floor afterward until minimal smoke/ or no life safety concerns Top floor Work down from there
