Continuum of care?
Delivery of health care over a period of time.
For-profit organizations.

Public and government grants, there are a large number of non-paying patients.

- Hospitals: the largest type.
- Extended care facilities.
- Retirement and assisted living facilities.

What is primary care?
First line defense, education, going to offices.
What is secondary care?
Emergency care at hospitals or urgent cares.
What is tertiary care?
Rehabilitation and assisted living facilities.
What is organizational structure?
Outlines who is accountable and responsible in an organization and subsequently helps define working relationships. Typically hierarchial.
Centralized structure?
Authority and decision making, the CEO controls and there is minimal creativity.
Decentralized structure?
Authority is shared, autonomy is at all levels.
Organizational culture includes what?
Mission statement: the purpose.
Vision statement: future of the organization.
Philosophy: beliefs, values, concepts, and principles.
What does strategic planning do?
Aligns an organization with defined goals, forecasts the future of success, and maximizes organizational preformance.
What are the steps of strategic planning?
- Clearly define the purpose of the organization.
- Establish realistic goals and objectives consistent with the mission and vision of the organization.
- Identify the organization’s external stakeholders and determine their assessment of the organizations purposes and operation.
- Clearly communicate the goals and objectives to the organization’s stakeholders.
- Develop a sense of ownership of the plan.
- Develop strategies to achieve the goals.
- Ensure effective use of organization resources.
- Provide a benchmark to measure progress.
- Provide a mechanism for informed change as needed.
- Build a consensus about where the organization is going.
