High-Intemsity (anaerobic) Exercise 2 Flashcards
1
Q
What causes muscle soreness?
A
Damaged connective tissue & cross bridges
- release of Ca2+ through sarcolemma
- increased protease activity
- increased cell damage
- inflammation
- soreness and fatigue
2
Q
Explain lactate shuttle
A
Lactate removal favoured in slow fibres
Lactate formation favoured in fast fibres
3
Q
What is the muscle pH at rest and after high intensity exercise?
A
~ 7.0 at rest.
Can fall below 6.3 after HI exercise
4
Q
What are the limitations to repeated sprint exercise?
A
Anaerobic metabolism - Enzyme activity (CK, PFK) Substrate availability - PC, CHO By-product accumulation (buffering of and tolerance to) - lactate, H+, Pi Recovery - O2 availability
5
Q
What to consider when causing anaerobic adaptations?
A
Need high intensities (SAID principle)
Consider rest period
Importance of quality e.g 4 x (6 x(5s sprint: 55s recovery) 2min rest)
Must be metabolically stressful
