Hi Temp (slides) Flashcards
(7 cards)
The amount of time required to kill 90% of the microorganisms
present
D-value
The probability that a viable microorganism
is present on an item after sterilization
SAL (Sterility Assurance Level)
What are the 6 factors critical for successful sterilization?
- Time
- Temp & pressure
- Moisture
- Direct steam contact
- Air removal
- Drying
What are the 3 ways heat can transfer?
Conduction, convention, and radiation
What is a jacket?
A reservoir where steam is held until the cycle starts. It keeps the interior walls hot to reduce condensation
What is a chamber drain?
An escape route for air during the cycle. The strainer must be removed and cleaned daily
What is a thermostatic trap?
Monitors the temperature of the air and steam in the drain line and adjusts the flow accordingly
