Define Biomedical approach to health
Focuses on the physical and biological aspects of disease and illness. It is a medical model of care practised by doctor and health professionals and is associated with the diagnosis, treatment and cure of disease.
Define Public Health
The organised response by society to protect and promote health and to prevent illness, injury and disability.
Define social model of health
A concept where improvements in health and wellbeing are achieved by focusing on social, economic and environmental; determinants of health. The model is based on the understanding that in order for health gains to occur social, economic and environmental determinants must be addressed.

Difference between old and new models of health
Old public health improves infrastructure in shelter, water and sanitation and focuses on prevention and treatment of disease.
New public health improves on physical infrastructure such as social support, behaviour and lifestyle and focuses on disease prevention and health promotion.
