What is a balanced diet? (3)
Contains:
- All the nutrients
- correct amount/indiv
- Enough Macro nutrients, vits and minerals
What is a varied diet? (3)
- variety foods from all food groups
- e.g. dairy, fruit, veg and starch
Why is a balanced and varied diet important for health? (15)
- low saturated fat, reduces risk for CHD and obesity.
- low salt, >risk of high BP and strokes
- high fiber, >obesity & <digestion, reducing bowel disease, constipation.
- low sugar >dental issues, reducing caries.
-high fruit & veg, >cancer risk, ACE vits (antioxidants)
*too much/too little of food groups can contribute diet related disease.
*does stop diseases but reduces risk.

-essential amino acids = 9 amino acids body cant make
