Heterotrophic

A

A heterotroph is an organism that eats other plants or animals for energy and nutrients. The term stems from the Greek words hetero for “other” and trophe for “nourishment.” Organisms are characterized into two broad categories based upon how they obtain their energy and nutrients: autotrophs and heterotrophs.

3 examples of Autptrophs

A

Plants, lichens, and algae are examples of autotrophs capable of photosynthesis. Notice their green color due to the high amounts of chlorophyll pigments inside their cells.

Q

Difference between heterotrophs and autotrophs

A

Heterotrophs do not produce own food while autotrophs do. Autotrophs are primary on the food chain level and heterotroph are secondary and tertiary. Autotrophs types are Photoautotroph, Chemoautotroph and Heterotrophs types are Photoheterotroph, Chemoheterotroph.
