Q

what were the results

A

5 schizophrenic mothers had been hospitalised, 3 were chronically ill

10% of the adopted children of schizophrenic mothers developed it

none of the control group developed it, so the experience of adoption didn’t affect the likelihood of getting schizophrenia

3 participants were chronic deteriorated patients who had been hospitalised for multiple years and 2 had been hospitalised and taken antipsychotic drugs

roughly 1/2 of the participants born to schizophrenic patients demonstrated a significant excess of psycho-social disability

16
Q

evaluate the applications

A

can be used for early intervention treatments for those who have been adopted but were born to mothers who have schizophrenia so there are applications

17
Q

evaluate the validity

A

some individuals could’ve lied during the interviews so the researchers wouldn’t work out that they’re experiencing symptoms of a disorder which lowers validity

social desirability bias

18
Q

evaluate the ethics

A

may have caused psychological harm through the letters telling some participants that they’re biological mothers are schizophrenic so ethics aren’t great
