-Personification emphasises the extent macbeth will go to to conceal his “desires”

  • “Black” –> conotes to darkness and sin
  • “Deep desires” –> alliterative, poetic, hidden + sinful —-symbolise evil

He has an understanding/ a moral code that he chooses to subvert mentally

-Repetition —> emphasise immediate/ rash
- “Firstlings” the first offspring, immediate, ideas newborn and not mature
- “Heart” —> Connotations to emotions (iambic stress)
- “My” possesive====selfish

-Decisions effect solely on rash emotions rather than thought

-Acting on his evil thoughts, subverts moral code +—– vilian
