How do we know that Hero is obedient?
We hear from Beatrice in the line “Yes, faith; it is my cousin’s duty to make curtsy and say ‘Father, as it please you.” (2.1), the words ‘duty’, ‘curtsy’ and ‘please’ emphasise Hero’s obedient nature
How is Hero shown to be a typical Shakespearean woman?
She is quiet and obedient, dominated/owned by men (Leonato & Claudio)
How is Hero used to contrast with Beatrice?
She is a passive character and does not make many of her own decisions, she is quiet and pleases others, Beatrice is outspoken and independant
