What are the different types of hiatus hernias?
A
Sliding Hiatus hernia: the oesophageal gastro junction and part of stomach “slides” through the hiatus so that it lies above the diaphragm.
Present: 30% >50y,
No sx- any sx due to reflux
Rolling OR para- oesophageal hernia
Part of fundus prolapses through hiatus, alomgside oesophagus.
The lower oesophageal sphincter remains below the diaphragm and remains competent.
Occasionally:
Severe pain due to volvulus or strangulation
