Adaptogen
A herb that helps to increase resilience to stress and disease
Aerial parts
The upper part of a flowering plant before it has gone to seed. These include the leaves, flowers and non-woody stems

Abnormal absence of menstruation
Analgesic
Reduces or relieves pain
Anti-allergic
Helps to alleviate some symptoms of allergy, such as hayfever
Antiarthritic
Lessens symptoms of arthritis

Destroys or inhibits the growth of bacteria
Anticoagulant
Inhibits blood coagulation (clotting)
Anti-emetic
Lessens or stops nausea and vomiting
Antifungal
Inhibits or prevents fungal infection
Antihistamine
Histamine is a chemical produced by the body and is involved in immune and inflammatory response. It is usually overactive in allergic conditions such as hayfever. Antihistamines help to regulate this response
Antihydrotic
Reduces or prevents excess perspiration
Anti-infective/antimicrobial
Destroys or prevents the growth of microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites
Antioxidant
Prevents oxidative stress from free radicals, thus preventing damage to cells and tissues

Reduces fever

Reduces the symptoms of rheumatism

Strong-smelling herbs that contain volatile oils. These can relieve muscular spasm and spasm of the gut. They can reduce digestive discomfort and wind. Usually antimicrobial
Astringent
Tighten tissues by causing proteins in tissues to contract. They can relieve inflammation and reduce secretions, discharges and bleeding
Autoimmune
A disorder where the body’s immune system attacks or damages the body’s own healthy cells and tissues

An Indian traditional healing system that also uses herbs
