Aetiology of hepatomegaly?
A
- cirrhosis → if early disease, later liver decreases in size. associated with a non-tender, firm liver
- malignancy → metastatic spread or primary hepatoma. associated with a hard, irrgular liver edge
- right heart failure → firm, smooth, tender liver edge. may be pulsative

- viral hepatitis
- glandular fever
- malaria
- abscess: pyogenic, amoebic
- hydatid disease
- haematological malignancies
- haemochromatosis
- primary biliary cirrhosis
- sarcoidosis, amyloidosis
