What is the aetiology of Hep D?

A

· Incomplete RNA virus.

· Activated by the presence of HBV so it is unable to replicate on its own.

What is the treatment for Hep D?

A

· Mainly supportive treatment, Hep D can also be treated with pegylated interferon alpha (for a minimum 48 weeks) and liver transplantation which can be curative.

· Prevention and control of HDV infection requires prevention of HBV transmission through hepatitis B immunization
&raquo_space;> but hepatitis B immunization does not provide protection against HDV for those already HBV infected.
