HEPATITIS Flashcards
isinflammationin your liver.
Hepatitis
Short-term liver inflammation is called
acute hepatitis.
Long-term liver inflammation is called
chronic hepatitis.
isan inflammation of the liver that is caused by a variety of infectious viruses and noninfectious agents leading to a range of health problems, some of which can be fatal.
Hepatitis
There are five main strains of the hepatitis virus, referred to as types
A
B
C
D
E
is hepatitis caused by viruses that infect and damage your liver cells, which leads to inflammation (a response from yourimmune system).
Viral hepatitis
is an acute infection, which causes acute hepatitis. However, it can last several months, and occasionally it’s severe enough to cause acute liver failure.
Hepatitis A
begins as an acute infection, but a small percentage of people develop a chronic infection and chronic hepatitis.
Hepatitis B
It’s one of the most common causes of chronic hepatitis.
Hepatitis C
infects people who already have hepatitis B. It can also cause chronic hepatitis.
Hepatitis D
is most prevalent in Asia and uncommon in other parts of the world. hepa
hepa e
can cause acute hepatitis in immunocompromised individuals.
Cytomegalovirus
causes infectiousmononucleosisand acute hepatitis.
Epstein-Barr virus
Steatohepatitis means
hepatitis from fat.
Some people develop chronic hepatitis as anautoimmune disease.
Autoimmune hepatitis
means that bile flow has stalled within yourbiliary tract.
Cholestasis
are both conditions that cause toxic levels of metals to build up in your liver.
Wilson diseaseandhemochromatosis
cause metabolic waste products to build up in your blood, which your liver filters.
Gaucher diseaseandglycogen storage disease(GSD)
is a sudden or gradual loss of blood flow to one of your organs.
Ischemia
Hepatitis A and E commonly spread through
contaminated food and water.
Hepatitis B, C and D can spread through
contact with blood from an infected person
Can hepatitis b and d be spread from parent to child during childbirth?
