  1. It was a peace treaty between many major European powers such as France and Spain. Great success in the short term as it was proof England had become a key negotiator in Europe, and gave England security. However failed in the long term because of the reignited Habsburg Valois conflict in 1519

A

Set in Calais, France, it was a host of good will and games between Francis I and Henry VIII.
Each king had tried to impress the other and assert power through jousting, hosting meals etc. Cost England a great amount of money, over just a way of showing Henry was better than France.

Why was the war with France in the 1540s so unsuccessful

A

Boulougne was more expensive to maintain than it was worth, it had to be returned to France during Edward’s reign. Henry also spent vast amounts of money on the war, funded by monastic land and the debasement of coinage which left Edward with a difficult legacy to uphold.

A

James V, Henrys nephew had married a French princess. This put Henry at unease and attempted to form an alliance against France, James didn’t show up. This led to a raid on Scotland bringing a historic victory of solway moss.
