Who was Sir Reginald Bray
He was the Chancellor of the duchy of Lancaster ( a significant body of property, henry often granted positions of authority within the duchy to his most trusted servants.
What were Prerogative rights?
describes those rights or powers which the monarch could exercise without requiring the consent from parliament.
What was the great council ?
The great council was a gathering of the house of lords, meeting with the house of commons. It had no clearly defined functions.
What was the council learned?
It was under the leadership of Bray and its function was to maintain the kings revenue and exploit his prerogative rights.
what were the aspects of the kings court ?
Hall, Guard chamber, Chamber ( overseen by the lord chamberlain, privy chamber ( these were the kings private quarters)
what was a bond?
a legal document which bound an individual to another to perform an action or a forfeit a specified sum of money if they failed to do so
what was a recognisance?
a formal acknowledgment of a dept or other obligation which could be enforced by means of financial penalty.
what was feudal aid
a right by which the crown could impose a tax on their tenants for the knighting of the eldest son, the marriage of the eldest daughter or to ransom a lord, this was typical of the skill full way henry used to revive old forums to create revenue, much to the irritation of the landowners.
how much extraordinary revenue did henry receive?
Henry received over £400,000 from extraordinary taxation however raising all this revenue came at a price and helped provoke rebellions in 1489 and 1497.
