Hemostasis and Cascade Flashcards
1
Q
Hemostasis process (3 steps)
A
- Vascular spasm
2.platelet plug formation
3.Blood clotting (coagulation)
2
Q
Blood clotting involves several clotting factors. It can be activated in 1 of 2 ways and both lead to prothrombinase
A
- Extrinsic pathway
- Intrinsic pathway
3
Q
Cascade steps
A
- Clotting causes platelets to become sticky. Reduction in vasoconstriction
- Prothrombin—>thrombin
- Fibrinogen—-> fibrin
- Fibrin forms mesh of fibers around platelets plug and traps blood cells, temporary clot
4 enzyme plasmin dissolves clot
4
Q
Vitamin K is need for
A
Normal clot formation
