Hemodynamics Flashcards
The relationship between flow Raye (Q), pressure difference (P) and resistance (R) is described by which law?
Poisuilles law for fluids
Typically the Viscosity and length of vessel don’t change therefore flow rate is determined by
pressure difference and vessel diameter
Two categories of blood flow
Turbulent & laminar
Types of laminar
Plug
Parabolic
Skewed
Disturbed
Plug flow (laminar)
Flat blunt profile,
Occurs at the outflow Lv tract and MV & TV inflow tracts
Parabolic flow (laminar)
Curved because friction, fastest at the centre of the flow
Skewed flow
Higher velocities at outside of the curve
Disturbed flow
Occurs when a vessel bifurcation. Flow remain laminar at outer walls but eddy currents at inner walls
What are eddy currents
Regions of slow circular flow.
Turbulent flow and Reynolds number
