Hemianopia vs. Visual Neglect Flashcards
Hemianopia
a visuosensory deficit resulting from an interruption of the visual pathways (optic tract) that send visual sensation to the visual cortex (p.60)
An actual optic issue keeping you from seeing
Not matter how many times you show them, they won’t be able to see it.
Visual Neglect
an attention deficit where patients fail to respond to information presented on the side opposite their brain lesion
Studies have shown that at a subconscious level, patients with visual neglect actually can see their left visual field, but they have difficulty attending to left-side stimuli
can show impulsive visual searching and respond far too quickly to questions about things in their visual field.
