Heme Unit -Coagulation Disorders Flashcards
What medications cause hypercoagulable states?
OCP (oral contraceptive pills) and HRT (hormone replacement therapy). Others non drug= immobolization such as leg in cast
Saddle Embolus
Occlusion of both L & R main pulmonary arteries (fatal pulmonary embolus)
Cor Pulmonale
Right sided heart failure that occurs secondary to lung disease. Can occur with a pulmonary embolus
Monckeberg’s Atherosclerosis
Calcification within the vessels that leads to brittle/thin vessels that crack and activate plts and coag pathways. Mechanism for Thrombosis in the Arterial system
Lines of Zahn
Characteristic of Arterial Thrombosis. Soft and dark red with alternating bands of yellow platelets and fibrin seen on pathology autopsy.
