Presence of formalin
High urinary ascorbic acid
What level of hematuria is considered abnormal in adults? Children?
Adults: 2 RBC’s / high power field
Children: 5 RBC’s / high power field
What is the most frequent cause of hematuria?
Transient, unexplained hematuria
If you spin down the urine and the supernatant is red, what does that tell you?
NOT hematuria. Need to dipstick for heme.
What are three things that can cause red supernatant with a negative dipstick test?
Porphyria
Phenazopyridine

What is the chemical responsible for red urine with beets?
Betalaine
