helo Flashcards
Nerve cell
Function: To transmit electrical impulses around the body for coordination.
Adaptations:
Long, thin axon.
Branching dendrites.
Conducts electrical impulses.
Ciliated epithelial cell
Function: To move microorganisms and dust away from the lungs.
Adaptations:
Tiny hairs called cilia for sweeping particles.
Lots of mitochondria for energy production.
Muscle cell
Function: To contract and facilitate movement.
Adaptations:
Lots of mitochondria for energy production.
Store glycogen for energy during respiration.
Ability to contract and relax.
Palisade cell
Function: To carry out photosynthesis using energy from sunlight.
Adaptations:
Tall and thin structure.
Lots of chloroplasts for photosynthesis.
Red blood cell
Function: To carry oxygen around the body.
Adaptations:
Biconcave shape for easy movement through blood vessels.
Large surface area for diffusion.
No nucleus.
Contains haemoglobin.
Ciliated epithelial cell
Function: To move microorganisms and dust away from the lungs.
Adaptations:
Tiny hairs called cilia for sweeping particles.
Lots of mitochondria for energy production.
