What are some physical findings of Corneal Abrasion?

A
  • Change in Visual Acuity
  • Fluorescent staining reveals a deeper green area at the abrasion than surrounding cornea.
  • Photophobia and incr Lacrimation @ exam

A
* Cyclopentolate 1% - one Drop now, Repeat 6-8hrs Prn
(Drop will burn for 10-15 sec)
* Erythromycin Ophthalmic Ointment QID
or
* Tobramycin Ointment QID

How do you administer a fluorescent strip?

A
  • Moistened with 1 drop of sterile saline or topical anesthetic
  • PT turns eye upward and touch it to the inside of lower lid
  • Have PT blink several times and examine under Cobalt BLUE illumination
