heating and cooling Flashcards
What is temperature?
Temperature is a measure of how hot or cold something is.
What is Degrees Celsius (°C)?
It’s a unit of measure.
What is convection?
This is the transfer of heat energy through the movement of the particles themselves.
What is conduction?
Is one of the ways in which thermal energy is transformed.
What is convection current?
Is a circular movement of hot gas or liquid, rising and cool gas or liquid falling.
What is evaporation?
The water evaporate because water particles have sufficient energy, are able to escape from the surface of the liquid.
Why solid expands?
It expands because the particles vibrate more and take up more space.
What is contraction?
When a material gets smaller.
How does a solid gets smaller?
It gets smaller when it is cooled.
What is infrared radiation?
Carries thermal energy from a hotter to a cooler object.
At what temperature does water freezes?
Temperature freezes at 0 °C.
At what temperature does water boils?
Temperature boils at 100 °C.
Does hot and cold air go in a circle?
Yes it does.
What is the average temperature of the body?
The average temperature of the body is 37°C.
Why does tea gets cold?
Tea gets cold because it takes energy from the room.
How is liquid getting hot?
Liquid is getting hot because particles vibrate more and more.
What is insulator?
Insulator keeps things worm.
How can you measure temperature?
You can measure temperature by using thermometer.
Describe how Heat can be Transferred by Convection.
Heat can be transferred by convection in liquids and gases. Particles in the liquid or gas collide with a substance that has a high temperature and the particles gain kinetic energy.
Which beaker will lose temperature faster large one or small one?
The large one will lose heat energy faster.
