Why is an electric heater 100% efficient?
A
It is completely immersed in the fluid, and works by direct heating. It does not give out any light or sound.

Describe the components of a direct fired heater and how they work
A
- Radiant section - heat transferred to feed direct from burners
- Convection section - heat transferred to feed from flue gas
- Draft gauge, temperature sensors and damper - ensure that too much heat is not being transferred in the convection section which is a sign of too much draft, and the damper will open and shut accordingly
- Shield - shields the convection tubes from direct radiant heat

Why is steam a safe heating fluid?
A
It stays at a constant temperature provided you keep it at a constant pressure, so will not overheat when not in use. This is unlike an electric heater, which will continue to get hotter and hotter once you remove the fluid in which it is immersed.
