What were the terms of the new act?
60 days cooling off period
set up NIRC (National Industrial Relations Court
set up IRC ( Industrial Relations Commission)
Why did the miners strike in 1972?
Demanded a 47% pay rise well above the 8% offered by the gov
Why was the Miner’s strike succesful?
Gov was ill-prepared: only had 8 weeks of coal
Scargill mobilised pickets to stop the coal supply and used flying pickets to persuade others
Why was the success of the strike damaging to the government?
Showed that striking worked
Increased infaltion
Gov looked weak against unions
Showed the failure of the Industrial Relations Act
