Heat Transfer Test Flashcards
How does heat move from one area to another?
heat moves toward colder temperatures. The ways it can travel include conduction, radiation, and convection
How do insulators keep things cold?
They keep warm air from getting and warming up something
How does heat transfer through conduction?
Heated molecules move faster than colder ones, so whenever 2 substances like this make contact, the fast molecules causes some of the colder one to move faster
How does heat transfer through radiation?
Heat is transferred through waves
How do objects of different colors absorb heat differently
Lighter colors absorb less heat while darker colors absorb more
How does heat transfer through convection
Cold air is denser and sinks, allowing the hot air to rise
What is the difference between an insulator and conductor
an insulator traps/keeps out heat while a conductor transfers heat
