Heat Transfer - Heat & Temperature Flashcards
What is temperature?
A measure of hot and cold. It is determined by the average kinetic energy in an object.
What is heat energy measured in?
Joules (J)
When does a heat transfer occur?
These occur when there is a difference in temperature between substances.
Where will heat always flow to?
Heat always travels from a hotter to a colder substance. This is how heat transfers occur.
Cooling down example
A hot cup o’ joe will cool down as it is warmer than its surroundings and the heat will begin to move into its surroundings.
Warming up examples
A cold glass of milk will warm up as heat from its surroundings will cause a heat transfer and transfer to it , making it room temperature eventually.
