Heat transfer Flashcards
Explain heat energy is terms of particles.
‘Heat’ is a measure of the amount of movement of the particles in an object. In hot objects the particles are moving very fast and in cold objects they are moving very slowly.
State the direction of heat transfer.
Heat energy always from from hotter objects to colder objects.
Describe CONDUCTION as a method of heat transfer.
Heat is transferred between two solids that are in direct contact with one another.
What is CONVECTION?
The way in which heat energy flows through liquids and gases.
How is heat transferred by RADIATION?
Heat can be transferred by electromagnetic waves.
Explain why some objects become hot in the sun while others don’t.
If an object absorbs the sun’s radiation then it become hot. If it reflects the suns radiation then it stays cooler.
