Heat Transfer Flashcards
Law of Conservation of Energy
Energy can not be created or destroyed just transformed (under normal conditions)
Heat transfer
A method in which heat flows (conduction, convection, radiations)
Heat
Thermal energy that flows due do to a difference in temperature
Conduction
Heat transfer within or between solid objects
Convection
Heat transfer into or out of fluids
Radiation
Heat transfer due to packets of energy called photons that can travel through many substances, even empty space
Insulator
A material through which energy (electrical, thermal, or sound) cannot be easily transfered
Conductor
A material through which energy (electrical, thermal, or sound) can be transferred.
Temperature
The measure of the average speed of all particles.
Thermal energy
The total energy of all particles in an object.
