Observe patient’s skin for possible reaction to
previous heat treatment.

Observe for and remove ointment and cream
that are not heat conducive materials.

+ Heat lamp with 40 or 60 bulb or infrared lamp with green towel
+ Extension cord
+ Screen
+ Top sheet
Ensure that NO MORE THAN A 60 –WATT bulb is used for heat lamp or the
infrared element is in place for infrared treatment
Avoids short circuit
dorsal recumbent position
Provides full exposure of
female genitalia
Place lamp 18-24 inches
(45-60 cm) from the patient.
If lamp is any closer , it could
burn the patient.
Remove lamp after 15-20
minutes and check area for
burning or other untoward
reaction
It could burn the patient’s
thigh
- Drying of perineal wound is accomplished
