Heat And Temperature Flashcards
What is temperature?
Temperature-the average kinetic energy of the particles in the sample of matter
How does heat move?
Heat moves in a predictable flow from warmer objects to cooler objects until all objects are the same temperature
What tool is used to measure temperature?
A thermometer
What are the scales temperature is measured in?
Celsius, Fahrenheit and kelvin
In the U.S.A what scale do we use to measure temperature?
Fahrenheit
What is the points in Fahrenheit?
Absolute zero- -459.67 F
Boiling point- 212 F
Freezing point- 32 F
What are the points in Celsius?
Absolute zero- -273.15 C
Boiling point- 100 C
Freezing point- 0 C
What are the points in Kelvin?
Absolute zero- 0 K
Boiling point- 373.15 K
Freezing point- 273.15 K
What is the formula for finding Fahrenheit with Celsius?
F=(C•1.8)+32
What is formula to finding Celsius with Fahrenheit?
C=(F-32)/1.8
What are the three ways heat moves?
Convection, Conduction, Radiation
What is Convection?
Convection is the method of heat transfer in liquids in gases by means of currents
What is conduction?
The method of heat moving using touch (direct contact)
What is radiation?
Radiation is the transfer of heat through space to other objects by infrared waves
What are conductors?
Any material that lets heat pass through easily
