Heat Flashcards
Temperature
Measure of the hotness or coldness of a body.
Heat
Energy due to the movement of the molecules within the body.
Thermometric Property
A physical property that changes measurably with temperature.
Heat Capacity
The amount of heat required to raise the temperature of a body by 1K.
Specific Heat Capacity
The amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1kg of a substance by 1K.
Latent Heat
The amount of heat required to change the state of a body without a change in temperature.
Specific Latent Heat
The amount of heat required to change the state of 1kg of a substance without a change in temperature.
Specific Latent Heat of Fusion
The amount of heat required to change 1kg of a substance from a solid to a liquid without a change in temperature.
Specific Latent Heat of Vaporisation
The amount of heat required to
change 1kg of the substance from a liquid to a gas without a change in temperature.
Conduction
Way in which heat travels through a substance with no overall movement of the substance.
Convection
Transfer of heat through a fluid by means of circulating fluid.
Radiation
Transfer of heat by means of electromagnetic waves.
Solar Irradiance
Average amount of the Sun’s Energy falling per second perpendicularly on 1m squared of the Earth’s Atmosphere.
