Q

What is heartworm?

A

A common parasite transmitted by mosquitos. Heartworms are parasites that live in the heart and lungs. Heartworm is not treatable in cats. Treatment for dogs is incredibly extensive and stressful, so prevention is key. Heartworms clogs the heart and its arteries, causing irreversible damage, eventually leading to death by heart failure. All dogs and cats should be on year round heartworm preventative. Heartworm disease is prevalent in all 50 states.
