Heart Vocabulary Flashcards
Artificial Pacemaker
A medical device that generates electrical pulses delivered by electrodes
Atrial Fibrillation
When the heart beats too slowly, too fast, or in an irregular rhythm
Automatic nervous system
A component of the peripheral nervous system that regulates involuntary physiologic processes
AV node
Generates impulses for the contractions of the heart, and ensuring coordinates blood flow
Bradycardia
Slow heart rate
Bundle Branches
Controls the heartbeat and is made up of several parts that tell the ventricular muscle when to contract
Bundle of His
An elongated segment connecting the AV Node and the left and right bundle branches of the septal crest
Ectopic Focus
The implantation of an embryo outside of the uterine cavity most commonly found in the fallopian tube
Electrodiogram
Records the electrical signal from the heart to check for different heart conditions
Normal Sinus Rhythm
The rhythm of a healthy heart
Purkinje Fibers
Specialized conducting fibers composed of electrically excitable cells
Sinoatrial Node
Generates an electrical signal that causes the upper heart chambers to contract
Tachycardia
Fast Heart Rate
Ventricular Fibrillation
A type of arrythmia, or irregular heartbeat, that affects your hearts ventricles
