heart sounds` Flashcards
1
Q
S3 and S4 occur early/late in diastole/systole
A
S3 = early in diastole
S4 = late in diastole
2
Q
S3 and S4 reasoning
A
S3 = from a sudden deceleration of blood flow into left ventricle from the left atrium
- benign in some children & trained athletes but can be indicative of congestive heart failure later in life
S4 = in ventricular non-compliance (ex. hypertrophy)
3
Q
- ventricular relaxation/atrial contraction = systole or diastole
- ventricular contraction /atrial relaxation = systole or diastole
A
- diastole
- systole
4
Q
- after mitral valve closes, before aortic valve opens
- period b/w aortic valve close and mitral opening
A
- isovolumetric CONTRACTION
- isovolumetric RELAXATION
