Heart Sounds Flashcards
Mitral and tricuspid valve closure, loudest at mitral valve
S1
Which valves are the AV valves?
Mitral and Tricuspid
In-rushing of blood into the ventricles from atrial contraction
S4
Atrial kick, late diastole
S4
Aortic and pulmonary valve closure
S2
In early diastole during rapid ventricular filling
S3
Why would you hear S4?
High atrial pressure
Ventricular hypertrophy
Stiff left ventricular wall
*always pathological
When is it normal to hear the S3 sound?
in children and pregnant people
When is it abnormal to hear the S3 sound?
Dilated ventricles
Increased filling pressure
-Mitral regurgitation
-heart failure
What to you hear in Mitral Stenosis?
Opening snap! Early diastolic with presystolic kick- without atrial fib
What are the diastolic murmurs?
Mitral Stenosis and Aortic Regurgitation
What are the systolic murmurs?
Aortic Stenosis and Mitral Regurgitation
What does an Aortic Regurgitation sound like?
High pitched blowing, early diastolic decrescendo
What does aortic stenosis sound like?
Crescendo-decrescendo systolic ejection murmur
What does a Mitral Regurgitation sounds like?
Holosystolic, high pitched blowing murmur, loudest at the apex and radiates toward the axilla
