Heart Rhythm Flashcards
What factors increase heart rate? Name at least 4
- low blood ph (working out)
- low oxegen in blood
- adrenaline
- high body temp
- some drugs - cocaine, caffiene, alcohol
What slows down heart rate? Name at least 3 things.
- Lots of blood in aorta
- low body temp
- drugs - heroin/opium
Explain blood pressure
The force of the blood against the walls of the blood vessels.
Factors responsible for blood pressure (CEAB)
- Contraction of ventricles
- Elasticity of artery walls
- Artery diameter (large = low / small = high)
- Blood volume (low blood = low pressure / high blood = high pressure)
Explain vasodialation (what happens to the blood vessles?)
Blood vessels dialate to lower BP
Explain Vasoconstriction (what happens to the blood vessels)
They constrict - get smaller - to raise BP
What is the ideal blood pressure measurement?
120 (systolic) / 80 (diastolic)
Explain cardiac output
The amount of blood pumped out each minute (SV)
what does heart rate measure?
Number of beats per minutes (HR)
What is the equation for cardiac output?
CO=SVxHR
Does a fit person have higher or lower SV?
Higher
