Heart Labels Flashcards
Vena cava
Major veins of the body that return deoxygenated blood to the right atrium
Right atria
Receiving chamber at the top of the heart, receiving deoxygenated blood from the body
Left atria
Receiving chamber at the top of the heart receiving oxygenated blood from the lungs
Tricuspid valve
In the right chamber, valve between atria and ventricle, preventing backflow of blood
Mitral valve
In the left chamber, valve between atria and ventricle, preventing backflow of blood
Right ventricle
Thinner, pump blood to lungs
Left ventricle
Thicker, pump blood to body
Pulmonary artery
Major artery, carrying deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs
Pulmonary vein
Major vein, carrying oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left ventricle
Aorta
Major artery, carrying oxygenated blood from the left ventricle to the body
Coronary arteries
Supply blood to the heart muscle
Pulmonary valve
Allow deoxygenated blood to leave the right ventricle and flow to the lungs
Aortic valve
Controls flow of blood out of the left ventricle of the heart to the body’s main artery
