Heart info Flashcards
Blood flo
Pulmonary (right) Body flow (left)
Where is the heart located?
Sits in the mediastinum
The pericardium
Connective tissue layer that protects the heart
Top of the heart
The base
Fibrous pericardium
- outer most layer + tough
- dense irregular connective tissue
- similar to duramater of the brain
Serous pericardium
made of two layers: the parietal layer and epicardium
parietal layer
in contact / fused to the fibrous layer
epicardium
- purpose is to create a frictionless layer
- “visceral layer”
- shiny
pericardial fluid
in the pericardial cavity
pericardial cavity
between paricardial layer + visceral layer
What is pericarditis?
- inflammation of the pericardium
- restricts movement of the heart
Epicardium
- external visceral layer
- frictionless surface
Myocardium
- the muscle of the heart
- auto-rythmic
- intercollated discs
Endocardium
- A macine heart pump cannot replicate
- layers of trabeculate
- cover inner wall of heart chamber
- rbc need to roll and tumble and not be smooshed
- values of the heart are continuous with this
What is the most muscular chamber?
The left ventricle
Artia (Auricles)
- recieving chambers
- small + thin
- dark blood ( least oxygen as possible)
What does the right atria recieve from?
The inferior/superior vena cava
What does the left atrium receive from?
Lungs + highest oxygen (pulmonary concentration vein)
angina pecturis
intense chest pain associated with heart attack
How do the valves operate?
When heart betas, they’re closed (AV valves)
When heart is relaxed, they’re open (semi lunar valves)
