Heart Failure Swonski Flashcards
Drug Induced HF that reduce contractility
ABC
Antiarrhythmics (disopyramide, flecainide)
BB (atenolol, propranolol, metorpolol)
Calcium Channel Blockers (verapamil, diltiazem)
Drug Induced HF that cardiac toxin
Doxorubicin, Epirubicin, Daunomycin, CYP, Bevacizumab, Blue cohosh, imatinib, lapatinib, ethanol, cocaine, amphetamines
Drug Induced HF that increase Na and H2O retention
glucocorticoids, androgens, estrogens, NSAIDs/COX-2 inhibitors
HFrEF etiology
IHD, dilated cardiomyopathy, valvular disease, HTN
HFpEF etiology
HTN, restricted cardiomyopathy, constrictive pericarditis, pericardial. tamponade
Compensatory Mechanisms of Body to increase CO
- increased HR & contractility
- increased preload
- Ventricular hypertrophy
why are compensatory mechanisms bad in hF?
The heart enlarges too much and increased oxygen consumption, reducing the pumping ability of the heart
