Heart chambers Flashcards
What are the heart chambers?
right atrium
right ventricle
left atrium
left ventricle
What is the sequence of blood flow through the heart?
- Atria fill with blood
- Ventricles relax, AV valves open, elasticity of atria forces blood into ventricles; 80% of ventricle blood enters this way
- Atria pump at end of this cycle; which drives remaining 20% of blood into ventricles.
- Ventricles contract, increase pressure causing AV valves to close and semilunar valves to open
- As blood leaves, ventricles relax, semilunar valves close, AV valves open
What are the places where blood enters the right atrium?
SVC
IVC
coronary sinus
anterior cardiac veins
What are distinct features of the right atria?
Crista Terminalis sulcus terminalis cordis pectinate muscles interatrial septum fossa ovalis limbus fossa ovalis
What forms the most anterior surface of the heart?
right ventricle
How does the blood travel to the lungs?
via the conus arteriosus
denoted by smooth surface
What valve does the blood pass through to pulmonary artery?
pulmonary valve
What features are associated with the right ventricle?
trabeculae carneae papillary muscles chordae tendineae tricuspid valves (anterior, posterior, and septal) septomarginal trabecular cardiac conductive fibers (Purkinje)
What forms the base of the heart?
left atrium
What features are associated with the left atrium?
interatrial septum
fossa ovale
Mitral valve
What features are associated with the left ventricle?
chordae tendineae
papillary muscles
mitral valve
aortic valve (three leaflets)
