HEART AUSCULTATION Flashcards
what are normal heart sounds
S1 and S2
what is the first heart sound from
the closure of the mitral and tricuspid valves , heard as a higher frequency sounds
what is the second heart sound from
the closure of the aortic and pulmonic valve , heard as a lower frequency sound
what is the surface land mark of the aortic valve
2nd intercostal space , right sternal border , S2 sound heard the best here
what is the surface land marks fro the pulmonic valve
2nd intercostal space , left of the sternum
what is the surface land marks for the tricuspid valve
4th intercostal space , left of the sternum
what is the surface land marks for the mitral valve
5th intercostal space , in line with the midclavicular line, S1 sound best heard here
where and how do you check S3 and S4 heart sounds
flip over to the bell , heard at the 5th intercostal space (apex) and have the paitents lean forward and to the left
if you hear an S3 heart sound what does that imply
due to rapid ventricular filling at early diastole due to excess volume in atrial
- signals HF but normal in childern m adolscents , pregant ppl and atheltes
what sound will you hear with an S3
Ken- TUCK- y
if you hear a S4 sound what does that indicate
exaggerated atrial kick forcing blood into a stiff ventricle
-signs of HTN , diastolic HF , and actue myocardial ischemia
S4 is also known as
atrial gallop
when does S4 happen ? before or after S1 and S2
before S1 and S2 or S4 S1 S2
