heart Flashcards
job of the vena cava?
Vena cava returns deoxygenated blood to the heart
from the body
Right Atrium
The right Atrium Receives deoxygenated blood and contracts to force blood through the tricuspid valve
Pulmonary Artery
Pumps Blood to the lungs
Right Ventricle
The Right ventricle contracts pushing
blood up the pulmonary artery
Pulmonary Vein
Returns Oxygenated Blood to the Heart and into the left atrium
Left Atrium
The left atrium receives the oxygenated blood
and contracts forcing blood through the bicuspid valve
Left Ventricle
The left ventricle contracts, pushing blood up the aorta
Aorta
Pumps blood around the body
Where is the tricuspid valve
Between the right atrium and ventricle
Where is the bicuspid valve
Between the left atrium and ventricle
Why is the left ventricle Bigger
It has a much thicker muscular wall than the right
ventricle to provide enough pressure to push blood all
around the body
What do the semi lunar valves do
Prevent backflow into the heart from the arteries
