Heart Flashcards
Where is the heart located?
Middle Mediastinum, Posterior to Sternum and anterior to vertebral column, base of the heart begins at the T4/T5 level and apex of the heart ends at around T9.
Where do the great veins empty into the heart?
Right Atrium through the Vena Cavae
Name the surfaces of the heart.
Base (post.), Diaphragmatic, Sternocostal and right + left pulmonary.
What remarkable grooves can be found on the surfaces of heart?
Coronary (AV Groove), Anterior and Posterior interventricular sulci.
Name the chambers of the heart.
Right and Left Atria and ventricles
Which chamber of heart includes the sinus of venae cavae?
Right Atrium
Name the fibrous skeleton of heart.
Fibrous rings of pulmonary valve and aortic valve, left and right AV ring. Connected via left and right fibrous trigones.
Which veins empty into the right atrium?
Vena cavae and thebesian veins
Where are the pectinate muscles located?
Right and left auricles and properly in the right atrium
At which orifice is the bicuspid valve located?
Left Atrioventricular Orifice
Which veins empty into the left atrium?
Pulmonary veins
Where is the fossa ovalis located?
inferior aspect of the right interatrial septum
Which blood vessel arises from the right ventricle?
pulmonary artery
Which blood vessel arises from the left ventricle?
Aorta
Which are the major parts of the interventricular septum?
inlet septum, trabecular septum, and infundibular septum
Name the individual cusps of the bicuspid valve.
Anterior and posterior cusps
Name the individual cusps of the tricuspid valve.
Anterior, Septal and Posterior.
Name the individual cusps of the pulmonary valve.
Anterior, left and right
Name the individual cusps of the aortic valve.
Right, left and posterior (sometimes people are born with a unicuspid or quadricuspid aortic valve)
What is the primary pace maker of the heart?
Sinoatrial node
