Q

What structures line the ventricles?

A
  • Trabeculae carnae (help inflow).

Also have papillary muscles and chordae tendineae (but only seen in right ventricle)

Q

What are the layers of the heart (innermost to outermost) and what is within those layers?

A
  • Endocardium (lined with simple squamous epithelial cells and regulated contraction)
  • subendocardial layer (location of purkinje fibres and site of arrhythmias).
  • Myocardium (cardiac muscle)
  • Subepicardial layer
  • Epicardium (visceral layer of pericardium and simple squamous epithelial cells)

Q

What are the 2 main coronary arteries and what do they branch off?

A

Right Coronary artery (RCA)- Right marginal artery (RMA)

Left Coronary artery (LCA)- left anterior descending artery (LAD), Left marginal artery (LMA) and left circumflex artery (Cx).

The Cx and RCA can also branch into the posterior inter-ventricular artery (Plv) posteriorly.

17
Q

What are the 4 main cardiac veins?

Where do they mostly drain through?

A

1) Great cardiac vein
2) Small cardiac vein
3) Middle cardiac vein
4) Posterior cardiac vein

Drainage of the heart is through the coronary sinus.

18
Q

Where in the heart is it like for a thrombus to form?

A

Left atrial apendage

19
Q

What 4 factors affects the stroke volume?

A

Cardiac size

contractility

preload

afterload
